A Gathering of Churches…
Will convene this Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the Dothan Civic Center. And it is all about prayer! Churches and leaders from all over the wiregrass will join our hearts together to seek the Lord in a time of worship and prayerful devotion to God. Ridgecrest, let’s show up in mass and support this important evening. I along with many other pastors from our area will be leading in this time of devotion and unified prayer. We all know how important it is to pray, so lets just do it. Our community deserves it and our nation needs it more than ever.
Oswald Chambers said it best… “Prayer does not fit us for the greater works [of God]; prayer is the greater work… There is nothing thrilling about a labouring man’s work, but it is the labouring man who makes the conceptions of the genius possible; and it is the labouring saint who makes the conceptions of his Master possible. You labour at prayer and results happen all the time from His standpoint. What an astonishment it will be to find, when the veil is lifted, the souls that have been reaped by you, simply because you had been in the habit of taking your orders from Jesus Christ.” See you Wednesday at the Civic Center… for the greater work of God.
Servant Selection Sunday… that’s what today is as we select 13 men for the office of deacon. Why call it servant selection, because the word deacon actually means servant. In fact the first deacons appointed in the New Testament church were appointed specifically to serve the congregation and free the apostles to devote themselves to the Word of God and prayer. Ridgecrest is blessed to have a deacon body that functions just as they did in the early church… it is not unusual for these men to visit hospitals, engage in ministry to the needy, call guests that visit our church and pray in our prayer room during worship services. I thank God for them and for those who are being nominated this year. You’ll see a ballot in your worship folder. I’ll give you further instructions during the time set aside to elect during today’s morning worship services.
Refurb Team… is still at work. Don’t confuse not having received a recommendation for nothing going on. They are hard at work and at the right time will have a refurb recommendation for our church family. With the recent flooding of our music suite, back hallways and fellowship hall, the focus has shifted to getting those areas back in useable condition. Fortunately we have very good insurance to cover what turned out to be extensive damage.
Thank You… for giving generously so far this year. Our giving for year-to-date is up a bit over last year to this same date. Praise God! And that fact combined with last year’s decision to restructure our existing building debt has for the first time in 13 years enabled us to enter the fall in the black. But don’t let up! Did you know historically, and this will surprise you, September is our worst giving month of the year? Let’s change that starting this month. Let’s stay in the black the entire year. If we do, I have something I want us to do later this fall, and you will absolutely love it.
I am looking forward to sharing God’s Word with you today. And remember, God is always trying to take us someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!!
For God’s Glory Alone,
