A New You for the New Year…
The Apostle Paul provides some powerful insights to help us begin the New Year, he says… “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these, the wrath of God is coming. In these, you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” (Colossians 3:1–10)
That is a good way to start the year and it’s a good course to stay on through the year. To help us begin this year right, I’ll start a brand-new series today titled, “God First.” Over the next several weeks I’ll talk about making God first in all aspects of your life. If you do, 2018 will be the greatest spiritual year of your life.
Our ALL In for Missions offering was very successful… thank you for giving so well and so generously. We reached our goal for our ALL In for missions offering. We received over $100,000 and have already distributed it to our 5 mission partners consistent with previous years. And by the way, that offering is on top of our regular annual CP budgeted missions giving of more than $320,000 in 2017. It is a fact that God blesses the individuals and the churches who bless His work, thank you again for giving to the Lord!
4 Biblical Ways to start the New Year for God…
- Make Church attendance a priority… We are designed to worship God, we are fulfilled in doing so and our souls need the refreshment that worshipping provides.
- Read Your Bible… Your Bible does not contain God’s truth, IT IS GOD’S TRUTH! Every bit of scripture is authoritative and useful. You are going to need God’s counsel in the coming year, and you are going to need His wisdom and direction repeatedly. His Word is the sourcebook for life… so, develop the holy habit of reading and applying it to your life every day.
- Give Obediently… start the year right. You can’t out give God! Watch how God takes care of you, as you obey His instructions for giving. Tithe and continue to do so. If you have never done so, change things beginning now and start obeying God’s direction in your finances. Give of your time and your talents in service to God as well. Be ALL In this year. The Kingdom of God operates by the engagement of His people.
- Connect with a Group… Now is the time to find a small group to connect with. Let us help you find a Sunday morning “Connection” group/Sunday School class. Meeting new people, connecting and fellowship are Biblical essentials and are best experienced with others in small groups. We have many to choose from, find the one that fits you best.
May the fellowship of God’s people
