Advent Begins Today…

    Advent Begins Today…

And for the next few weeks, we will celebrate the coming of our Savior for our redemption. To help you do that, we have secured a small advent devotional called “The Christmas Code”. I hope you will pick one up for $1 each. They are available at the Resource Center in our Welcome Center. And when you do, all the proceeds go to a special ministry of our Southern Baptist Convention called “Mission Dignity”, which assist retired ministers and their wives who have little or no financial means of support to live on. Many of them spent their ministries serving in churches that were unable to provide financially for their future. And today many of these men and women of God live in impoverished conditions and need our help.

The King is Our Father… David Jeremiah in his book Prayer, the Great Adventure writes, "When John F. Kennedy was President of the United States, Life magazine published photos of his children, John Jr. and Caroline, playing with their toys on the floor of the Oval Office. Those images captured the hearts of the American people like nothing before or since. Why? I think it’s because it bridged a gap between two thoughts: Kennedy was the President of the United States, but he was also a father. He held ultimate political power in the Free World, but playing at his feet were two little kids who called him Daddy. I don’t think your kids would have been allowed to do that. Nor mine. But his kids were. Why? He was their father. He was not only President of the United States; he was also their dad. In the same way, God is both our Father and the Lord of glory.

As we celebrate the season of our Savior, let us be reminded that we are privileged to be children of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The King is our Father!

Schedule Change… all through the month of December, our evening gathering times will be at 4:00 PM in the afternoon. Each week until Christmas Eve we will feature a 4:00 PM Musical presentation, beginning today with our combined Children’s and Adult Choirs helping us kick-off the advent season. On Christmas Eve, we will have our regular Sunday Morning schedule and conclude the day with our annual Christmas Eve service at 4:00 PM. I hope that you will attend every one!

World Mission Offering… we have not yet reached our goal of $115,000 and are at this writing just over halfway there. We will continue to receive your gifts so be sure to help us bless those who are blessing the Kingdom all over the globe.

The Promise… singer Michael Card wrote a song and a Christmas devotion on the theme of “The Promise.” He writes, “Christianity is founded on a promise. Faith involves waiting on a promise. Our hope is based on a promise. Promises are made with words. … that part of myself that goes with every promise is given to you through my words…. Our God is the great maker of promises… His word, our Bible, is a collection of the promises… most of these concern Jesus, who came to be known as "the Promised One" And Christmas is, “The Promise” fulfilled.

And speaking of promises, the promises from God to us often lead to God’s preparation of us. Listen carefully today as I share a message on God’s Spiritual Boot Camp… how God prepares us to fulfill His promises and purposes. And remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!

    Merry Christmas,

    Bro. Ray
