All In for a Deeper Life…
In Luke 18:29-30 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” Jesus wasn’t suggesting that relationships were insignificant or unimportant. His emphasis rather, was on the importance of the kingdom of God and the kind of commitment to it, above all things.
Many believers in Christ speak of a desire for a deeper life but fail to make the “All In” kind of commitment to experience that life. In an article for Quartz, Charles Chu writes that the average American engaged in social media spends over 608 hours a year reading, responding and reacting to various social media outlets. That is a fairly significant amount of time. And if you add to it the amount of time spent watching TV, 1642 hours a year, you end up with a total of 2250 hours. Wow, that is like 94 days a year! Let me make it more practical. If that same amount of time were applied to reading, the average American could read 1,000 books a year. While I know that it is unrealistic to expect a person to read that much, it isn’t unrealistic to think about how each of us might better use the time that we have been given by God.
Can you imagine what would happen in our relationship with God if we spent as much time getting to know Him as on Social Media? No, I am not against social media except when it robs us of serious time with God and engagement in the priorities of His kingdom. Being “All In for a Deeper Life” is about committing ourselves to God above all other things. It’s about a deep commitment to God in spite of life’s storms, it’s about a deep commitment to serve God and it is about a deep commitment to God until Jesus returns.
With that in mind, I will begin a new series today to encourage each of us to be “All In” for God, for His work and for His Eternal Kingdom. This is the key to a deeper life.
Awesome August… Last Monday was a great kick-off to our annual Awesome August month. And tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm we will continue with Dr. Ronnie Floyd. Dr. Floyd recently served as the President of our Southern Baptist Convention. He is currently the Senior Pastor at FBC Fayetteville, Arkansas and Cross Church in Rogers, Arkansas—two outstanding and leading Churches in our nation. He is a gifted leader and communicator and will challenge us with a powerful message from God’s Word. Also remember dinner begins at 5:00 PM for those interested and with reservations… call first thing in the morning if you would like to join the dinner and do not already have reservations.
My Foundations… series continues tonight. Join us as we continue examining who our church is, what our church believes and where our church is headed.
Special Thanks… again to all those who helped make last Sunday’s entrance into our renewed worship center a success. God has been good to us and remember, He is always trying to take us someplace new. I love being your Pastor!
For God’s Glory Alone,
