That is what happened this week with my church email account. Someone on the outside attempted to falsify my email account in order to try and manipulate our financial office. Fortunately we have firewalls and security in place and perceptive staff who discovered the matter. Nonetheless, if by some chance in the days ahead you receive an email from asking you to deposit money into an account for me, do not believe it nor click on the email.
The whole matter got me thinking about the deception of our spiritual enemy the devil who is constantly seeking to hack into our hearts and minds to manipulate and misrepresent the truth. We must be ever vigilant, always alert to his efforts to corrupt and destroy us. It reminded me of Paul’s words to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
The fact is we need to know the TRUTH so that we can discern lies, deception and the manipulation of our hearts and minds. Jesus is the truth! And the Bible is our sourcebook for the truth and obedience to that truth helps erect a spiritual “firewall” in our souls against the lies of the devil. Paul also said, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
So, let me remind you of the importance of knowing and doing God’s Word. It’s protective to your soul and helps prevent the deception of your heart. Like the person who hacked my email, the scripture says “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) Stay alert, don’t be a spiritual victim, be a spiritual victor.
Vermont…yesterday an RBC mission team headed to Vermont and will be there throughout the week. We have formed a mission partnership with Northeastern Baptist Seminary. This is our second trip, with more to follow as we help this fantastic ministry revive the work of the gospel in this highly unchurched region. Be in prayer this week for our team of 12 men and women as they serve our Lord and assist our brothers and sisters in Bennington, Vermont.
Monday Sunday School… is off to a great start! Over 300 this past Monday evening! Just a word of thanks to all of those who serve in this “out of the pew and into the street” ministry of the gospel to our community.
Pastoral Care… Bob Sanders is doing a fantastic job as our new Pastoral care minister. Please be sure to let his office know when those in our RBC family are going through difficulties, hospital stays or times of grief. Please do not assume that we know or that someone has already told us—sometimes, we find out about such matters after the fact, we would like to minimize that… so communicate with Bob’s office when you have information that would be helpful in that regard. By the way, because of the “Hipa” act hospitals will no longer give out patient information to us, so your communication with us is vital.
Tonight…before I preach we will have special called business meeting. I am excited about a recommendation that our finance committee will bring to our family—a blessing from God.
Remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your pastor!!!!
For God’s Glory Alone,
