He Is Our Life…

10.08.17 | by Ray Jones

    He Is Our Life…

Some months back I watched a 60 Minutes broadcast that highlighted an annual event in New Mexico. It is a memorial march to remember the WWII Bataan Death March. It is a 26.2 mile march that commemorates a horrific time in history when both Filipino and American POWs were subjected by their enemies and forced to march on the Bataan peninsula. The casualty estimates have varied, but we are told that as many as 18,000 Filipinos died and 650 American soldiers died. A few of the survivors can attend the annual memorial march, but only one can actually still march.

His name is Ben Skardon and he has drawn particular attention because this past March he walked for his 10th consecutive year. Now he can't do the whole march—he’s 99 years old. But he still does 8.5 miles! Why does he continue? Well, he explains that he does it for his best friends who did not survive the original march but helped him survive. He says, “My debt to Henry Leitner and Otis Morgan is heavy. It cannot be repaid. People ask me, ‘How can you account for being alive when your best friends are dead?’ I say, ‘I can’t.’”

We too have a great debt also, but it’s been paid for us at a high price. It cost God His Son in order for us to survive. We were dead in our sins with no hope of life until Jesus came and did for us what we could not do for ourselves.  The scripture explains it like this… “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,” (Colossians 2:13) And if you ask why? The answer is simple… “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

In other words, He is our life! And only in Him can we survive. Have you forgotten where real life is found? Have you forgotten that He loves you? If you have never exchanged your life, for His life, for the rest of your life, you are missing out on life! Let me urge you today to discover the abundant life and receive eternal life by calling on Him as your personal Savior. Don’t try to clean up to come to Him, just give up, stop running and allow Him to transform you from the inside out.

ALL In… is the theme of our current morning series. If you desire a deeper life with God, being “ALL In” for Him and with Him is the way to go. When God finds a person and a people that are totally committed to Him, He can, and He does, do great things through them. Maybe you feel like you have disappointed Him or failed in your commitment to Him… tell Him your sorry, confess and forsake it and then move on! And get back on your spiritual feet and back on course for God with a renewed “ALL In” kind of devotion. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been so much as it now matters where you commit to go.

That is why I am glad you are here today. This is His place, occupied by His presence and it is the perfect place to start a relationship with Him, renew a relationship with Him and continue in a growing relationship with Him. So, ask Him to speak to your heart today and then listen to what He says… He will speak. And remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!!

    For God’s Glory Alone,
