I WILL…

01.15.17 | by Ray Jones

    I WILL…

Is the subject of our New Year’s theme and ministry direction. It is both personal and corporate. All through this month, we will talk about 4 life changing commitments for 2017. These are not resolutions… we’re talking about personal commitments. As I said last week, there is a significant difference between a resolution, that rest largely on our will-power, and a spiritual commitment that depends entirely on His power operating in us and over us.

By way of quick review, last week we took the challenge to go, as in, “I Will Go In The Power of God” as an ambassador and witness for Christ. I hope that you made that commitment to God and will make it your mission to help at least one person come to Christ in 2017. That is minimal of course, and with the power of God’s Holy Spirit operating in you, easily accomplished. Imagine what God will do in your life and in our Church family if we all accept this mission to go forth. It is a commitment that will glorify God, change the lives of people that God brings across your path and it will change you forever.

Isaiah the prophet after encountering the presence of God said, “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!””…“And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:5, 7–8)

God asked… “who will go?” Isaiah said… I WILL! Like the prophet, God is looking for harvesters in 2017--- WILL YOU GO for His glory, for the Kingdom’s advancement and in His Power?

Commitment #2… is the subject of this morning’s message and it is all about the commitment to personal spiritual growth. One of the statements I have repeatedly made to you and always end this column with is, “God is always trying to take you/us someplace new.” It’s true! The question is, will we listen to Him and obey His promptings? Actually, that is a simple formula for spiritual growth.

The Greater Glory… committee is beginning to wrap up their work and will be bringing a recommendation to our congregation regarding our worship center refurbishment. As it looks right now, they’ll bring the recommendation and all the particulars to us on Sunday, March 5th. I can’t wait! It’s beautiful, it’s worshipful, it’s full of class and it is patterned after many of the leading and greatest churches in our Convention.

Prove the Tithe… As we’ve done in past several years, we will obey God’s Word on the 1st Sunday in February with our “Prove the Tithe” emphasis. On that day I am asking, as we have in the past, for everyone to tithe and bring their tithe on that day… I am not asking you to bring an extra offering, just your regular tithe all on the same day in obedience to the Word of God that says in Malachi 3:10 “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Just as God’s Word promises, the tithe is a pathway to God’s blessing both personally and for the work of God to be carried out. And it is the only place in life that God gives you permission to “test” Him…. Let’s do again! And remember, God is always trying to take you someplace (growth) new. I love being your Pastor!!!!

    For God’s Glory Alone,
