Let's Prove it Again

01.24.16 | by Ray Jones

Following my knee one of our members who had previously had the same kind of surgery text messaged me with some very helpful counsel… he used an acronym (you know I love acronyms and alliterations) to help me remember a simple and effective formula to speed my recovery. The acronym was RICE… Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Here is what I found out… it works!

Well likewise the Bible gives us some formulas if you will, that always work. In fact many here have discovered the blessed value of doing what the counsel of God’s Word prescribes. Next Sunday, we will have the opportunity to apply one of God’s commands and a winning principle for His blessing. Let me share it with you…

    Malachi 3:10–11

“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts.”

Notice several things about this command… first bring the “full” tithe (10%), not part of it, all of it.

Second, bring it into the “storehouse, which is the place of worship. Third, God actually gives you permission to “test” Him in this matter, and it is the only matter of which we are told we can test Him. Fourth, note the blessing that comes from obedience and fifth, see the promise of His future provision in rebuking the “devourer.”

When you look at the passage rightly, who would be so foolish as not obey and get in on the blessing that God promises? Frankly, Alison and I have obeyed this command our entire married life, even when we didn’t see how on paper we could do it—but we found out in every occasion that God’s Word applied works! Next Sunday we will do what we have done the past 3 years and that is practice the principle of tithing and obeying God’s word. I am asking the entire RBC family to practice the tithe… literally to do what the Word says, “test” God and Prove that the tithe works.

Every year I hear from people in our congregation that were nervous about it, they’d never practiced tithing, but began. They tried it and they found that it really works, and that God really is faithful to the promise of His Word. I know we all give generally based on when our income arrives, but if you can arrange to give your tithe next Sunday, please do so. In other words, LET’S PROVE IT AGAIN! Remember this is not a special catch up or mission offering like our fall offering… just a regular, and obedient tithe.

And never forget that God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!!

    For God’s Glory Alone,

    Bro. Ray
