Life In The Spirit Pt. 2… Consecration
- Raymond Edman writes about Samuel Brengle of Salvation Army fame and how he found the secret to the abundant life. He writes, “There were humbling experiences in his first years of ministry, and as a result there came to his heart a hunger for complete consecration to the Savior and for holiness of life”. He saw that he himself was his greatest enemy in effective service for the Lord. As he sought the truth of God in the Scriptures and searched his own heart, he found that consecration meant emptying of all that he was in himself before he could be filled with the Spirit. Of that heart searching Brengle said…
“I saw the humility of Jesus, and my pride; the meekness of Jesus, and my temper; the lowliness of Jesus, and my ambition; the purity of Jesus, and my unclean heart; the faithfulness of Jesus, and the deceitfulness of my heart; the unselfishness of Jesus, and my selfishness; the trust and faith of Jesus, and my doubts and unbelief; the holiness of Jesus, and my unholiness. I got my eyes off everybody but Jesus and myself, and I came to loathe myself.”
That is the perfect description of a consecrated life. It is the reason that God was able to use Samuel Brengle so powerfully. You see the consecrated life is the exchanged life. It is all about emptying ourselves of self and thereby enabling the Spirit of God to fill you. It is absolutely essential if you are going to be led by God and powerfully used by God for the purpose that He created you. Isn’t that the life you want?

It’s Tuesday, and as I write these words, I just got my first glimpse… of our Greater Glory’s refurbishment concept for our worship center. Wow! It took my breath away! It’s Beautiful, Worshipful, Fantastic! Those are the only words that I know to describe it. And that is just after looking at the preliminary artist concepts. Our committee has been working with a company that has refurbished many of our great Southern Baptist Churches in the past few years like First Baptist Church of Dallas and Bellevue Baptist in Memphis (formerly pastored by Dr. Adrian Rogers and now pastored by the prospective next President of the Southern Baptist Convention), among many others. In other words these people know what they are doing. I am so glad our committee found them. Continue to pray for the committee, as they believe that they will be ready to bring a recommendation to our RBC family sometime in August, with hopes to begin the project in January 2017. Again, wow!!!
Remember, God’s promise from Haggai 2:9, “The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.” Why, because God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!!
For God’s Glory Alone,
