Someone is Coming…
Some years ago Billy Graham made the following statement—“The great Dwight L. Moody used to say, ‘I never preach a sermon without thinking that possibly the Lord may come before I preach another.’ Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, the distinguished British clergyman, said, ‘I never begin my work in the morning without thinking that perhaps He may interrupt my work and begin His own. I am not looking for death, I am looking for Him.’ That is the way a Christian should live his life—in the constant anticipation of the return of Jesus Christ! If we could live every day as though it might be the very last one before the final judgment, what a difference it would make here on earth! But we don’t like to think that way. We don’t like to think that our carefully made plans, our long-range schemes may be interrupted by the trumpet of God. Too many people would rather say, ‘Oh well, the end of the world hasn’t come yet, so why think about it—it’s probably a thousand years away.’”
The bible says that when Jesus returns again it will be a time just like the days of Noah… When we look around today, the signs of His return are everywhere. In fact over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of apocalyptic movies coming out of Hollywood precisely because most everyone, not just Christians, but secularists as well, have a sense that things cannot continue as they are. Modern polls reveal that most people believe our world is not getting better, man’s behavior is not improving and time is running out. Joel Rosenberg has written recently that the age in which we are living points to one of two things coming, and coming soon… either Judgment or Revival. I am praying for revival and I trust that you are as well.
For two millennia the Church’s hope has been in the Return of Jesus Christ… in fact that is what the early Christians called His second coming—The Blessed Hope! It was then and still is. Jesus is the hope of humanity, the hope of eternity and His return will usher in the Kingdom of God fully.
Because that is so, we dare not sleep, but must be engaged in His work. We are told in scripture to be always alert because He is coming as a thief in the night. Today I’ll share with you a message on His Return and some truths that we need to know and practice in order to be ready.
In the mean time we should keep our eyes open, noting the seasons and times, living as if He is coming today (He might indeed), while serving and working for Him until He comes!
Speaking of Serving… it is the time of year when we prepare for a new season and year of Sunday morning Sunday School and small group Bible study. As always we can use more help. Jesus said, the fields are ripe unto harvest so pray to Lord for workers to serve and minister. We need help in several areas like preschool and children’s ministry… these precious little ones are a trust from God—as the Word says, “of such is the Kingdom of God.” Would you help? Contact our preschool and children’s ministry and say—“count on me!”
Lord’s Supper… next Sunday morning. For the past several years we have hosted the Lord’s Supper each Summer on a Sunday morning rather than only Sunday evenings or special events. In a church our size it is a huge logistical undertaking but well worth our efforts to partake of this sacred ceremony. Be sure to join us next Sunday and participate in this beautiful reminder and ordinance that Jesus commanded us to practice… UNTIL HE RETURNS.
Awesome August Continues… tomorrow evening with Pastor H. B. Charles at 6:30 PM, don’t the blessing.
Remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. And, I love being your pastor!!!
For God’s Glory Alone,
