     Today, We Test…

God’s Word! Through our prove the tithe offering. It is not a special offering, but hopefully everyone of us will bring a tithe to the Lord today. Testing God, sounds a bit scary or arrogant, doesn’t it? But it is God himself who challenged His people to do just that in Malachi 3:10 which said, “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” That is both a command and a promise.

Dr. Elmer Towns tells a story called, “Who Owns Your French Fries” and it is the story of a father who buys his little boy some french fries. Then the father does what all fathers do, he reaches over and takes one french fry to taste it. The little boy slaps his father’s hand and says, "Don’t touch my french fries." The father thinks that his son is selfish. The father knows that he bought the french fries and they belong to him. The father knows that his son belongs to him. The father could get angry and never buy his son another french fry again to teach his son a lesson, or the father could "bury" his son in french fries. The father thinks, "Why is my son selfish, I have given him a whole package of french fries; I just want one french fry." In a similar way, God has graciously and sacrificially given to us all that we have and only expects a 1/10th in return… let’s not be like the little boy to our Heavenly Father.

And thinking about those things, have you seen this bumper sticker? It reads, “Tithe if you love Jesus. Any fool can honk". I love it!

Committed and Connected… for 2017. We’ve just finished our series, “I WILL” I hope that you made the four commitments that we discussed over the past four Sundays. Here they are again:

    1. I WILL… Go in the Power of God… I’ll be an Ambassador for Christ in 2017 and commit myself to reach and connect at least one person to Christ.
    2. I WILL… Grow in my Knowledge of God… I’ll make spiritual growth a priority, and I’ll get involved in a Sunday morning Connection Group.
    3. I WILL… Guard the Word of God… By reading it, hiding it in my heart, mastering its truth, and adjusting my life accordingly.
    4. I WILL… Give in Obedience to God… I’ll trust God with my finances and my material possessions by obeying His commands for giving.

These four commitments… really will change your life forever! We still have plenty of the reminder magnets for each of these commitments, be sure to get some if you have not already.

Super Sunday… Remember tonight we’ll have an adjusted schedule. We will gather at 5:00 PM in the auditorium for a brief time of song and inspiration. At 5:30 PM we’ll move to our newly renovated fellowship hall for Food (Chili, Soup, Desserts), Fun (some special prizes, table trivia) and Football (watch the Super Bowl on our 100” HD screen). Feel free to wear your team’s favorite colors.

A FAVORED FAITH…is the title of the new sermon series I begin today. I am excited to share it with you and have been looking forward to doing so since this past July. The fact is, every sane Christian wants the favor of God in their life. In this series, I will discuss how we can better position ourselves to enable God’s favor over our life.

And remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!

     For God’s Glory Alone,

     Bro. Ray
