Awesome August Just Ahead…
This year’s Awesome August will be one of our very best. This has become an annual highlight for Ridgecrest and our area. Dr. Steve Gaines of the great Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis will kick-off our month. Last year he shared one of the most powerful messages on prayer that I think I have heard in recent years.
The second week will feature Phil Waldrep, a friend and much sought-after evangelist. Phil’s ministry through preaching, books and conferences have impacted thousands upon thousands.
Week three will bring one of our favorites back… Dr. Fred Luter. This will be the 18th time that Fred has been our guest and I don’t need to tell you that he will bless us with the Word of God.
Our fourth guest this year will be Dr. Mac Brunson. Mac was with us about seven years ago. Mac has previously pastored the First Baptist Church of Dallas and the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL. In my list of favorite preachers, Mac is right up there with the very best. You will be blessed.
Last, Dr. H.B. Charles will wrap up our month. H.B. was one of our guests several years back, you might remember his message on Psalm 23… the best I’ve ever heard on the passage. Dr. Charles has become one of the premier preachers across the country and is in constant demand… I am so pleased that we were able to secure him once again.
Now you can see why I call this Awesome August. Once again, we have before us an incredible month of preaching. You will be challenged and encouraged by the Word of God through these gifted and God called servants. Put these dates down and plan to be here each Monday in August.
Last year I did not take July off as I have in the previous years… with the trauma that covid was producing and the shaking of the church, it was not the season to take off, but rather it was a time to help hold our family together. But today I will begin my month-long sabbatical… thank you for allowing me this time. I will use the time to study (future sermon series prep), read--- books, yes!!!! And of course, rest a bit, complete some tasks that I have not had time to tackle and relax with family and grandkids. I’ll be back in the office on August 16th.
That said, I will be here for the “Men’s Night of Worship” on August 6th, and I will be at each of the Awesome August gatherings on Monday the 2nd, 9th and 16th. So, I’ll see you a bit during these days out. I am thankful that we have such a competent and called staff who will fill the pulpit in my absence. You’ll be blessed as they feed you with God’s Word. I’ll be praying for them and for you.
Finally, remember to be praying for our new school, Ridgecrest Christian Academy… it begins August 16. God has done so many things to make it come together. His hand has been on it from the start, continue to ask for His favor over this life-changing ministry to our kids and community.
Alison and I love you. We will be watching and praying. And I look forward to return in August refreshed, revived and ready to continue the journey. And remember, God is always trying to take us someplace new. I love being your pastor!
For God’s Glory Alone,
