What Path Are You On? | Matthew 7:13-14

“You can enter God’s kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus assures us that the narrow path, the path that leads to life, is far less traveled than the path most people want to take.

Those who do choose to find the narrow path are required to make intentional choices not merely to “be good,” but choices that reflect a lasting commitment to God’s design for life. This is not an easy path, but Christ promises abundant life to those who walk it.

In contrast, the wide path appears to be inviting. In many cases, this path often gives more immediate “results” or indications of “success,” at least in the ways the world defines these terms. But in reality, the wide path only leads to spiritual barrenness in this life and eternal destruction in the next.

Psalm 1:1 differentiates the characteristics of the righteous and the wicked. The righteous are well rooted, nourished, and productive in every season while the wicked are ultimately like worthless chaff, scattered in the wind.

Have you chosen a path? You should realize that there is no third option; the broad path and the narrow path mentioned by Christ are the only options! Allow this realization to inspire you to examine your own choices today.

Are you willing to take the difficult and narrow path in obedience to Jesus, knowing that you’ll receive abundant life through him and produce abundant fruit?

Ask the Lord for the courage necessary to choose the narrow path. He’ll be faithful to answer your prayer.
