The Skyscraper That Hears A Bee Buzz

In an article titled "The Empire State Building Tracks Nearby Bees’ Buzzing," for the Wall Street Journal, Clara Hudson writes…

“The Empire State Building is now wired to detect the wingbeat of a butterfly and the song of a sparrow. If a skyscraper and artificial intelligence can be tuned to listen for every living creature, how much more does your loving Heavenly Father hear your prayers and your fears?

The Empire State Building in bustling Manhattan is now equipped with supersensitive microphones. These devices tune into bird calls and the slightest flutter of insects amid the cacophony of the concrete jungle.

The microphones are attached to a nature-monitoring device collecting minute details on the city’s flying wildlife. This data feeds into an artificial intelligence platform that can alert building owners of any concerning patterns. It is part of a real estate industry trend to track the surroundings of a property to anticipate how pollutants or window cleaning could harm living creatures.

Alex McLean is the chief executive of the company that oversees this monitoring platform. He notes that as an insect flies it creates a tiny audio frequency. His team is monitoring real-time data for any living thing coming into contact with that building.

While tracking tiny fluctuations around one building might seem insignificant, it feeds into a much bigger framework. McLean explained that one building is usually tied into a portfolio of thousands of buildings. When you multiply that single street corner in Manhattan by two thousand, it becomes a massive footprint.”

I am not sure if tracking Bee’s and Butterflies make any real difference to the concrete footprint of New York city, but if human technology can tune into the tiniest flutter of a single flying insect, then you can be confident that the Creator of the universe is tuned-in to the smallest details of your life.

How did Jesus address small things as it relates to us? In Luke 12:6-7 He said, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” He is a big, big God, and He does big things, but He also cares about the smallest of things.

You and I are relatively small things in the scope of His creation. But we are big to Him. Are you fearful today? “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). Are you anxious and troubled today? “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6–7)

Today I’ll share another of “My Favorite” messages titled, “What Is God Saying When He is Silent?” I pray it will bless your heart. And remember, God is always trying to take us someplace new. I love being your Pastor!!!
