Four Dangers To Truth

It is still a topic of concern and conversation…

I am talking about last week’s proclamation from President Biden recognizing and emphasizing “Transgender Day of Visibility” (TVD) on Easter Sunday. It was an in-your-face kind of proclamation sparking national outrage and causing the White House to try and downplay the backlash by calling it a coincidence. On Monday, when reporters at the annual Easter Egg Roll questioned the President about the matter, Biden responded that he “didn’t do that.” In response, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson tweeted an image of the document with Biden’s name and signature clearly displayed! I guess it is possible that he either doesn’t remember or has no idea about the things he is signing… and if that is the case, we should be very concerned that the President is signing things that he has no idea about or the implication that someone else is making the decisions and he is signing off on them. In this case he clearly signed the proclamation even though Joe said No he didn’t.

Further, in an attempt to distance the President and the White House from the furor created, White House Press Secretary Krine Jean-Pierre in her Monday press conference suggested that the calendar created the coincidence by stating that “Easter falls on different Sundays every year, and this year, it happened to coincide with Transgender Visibility Day.” What an interesting way to spin it. Easter happened to fall on Transgender Visibility Day rather than Transgender Visibility Day falling on Easter. Let’s see… TVD started in 2009 by Rachel Crandall-Crocker; Easter started 2000 years ago by Jesus Christ and has been a sacred observance by our nation ever since its founding! So, are we making too much of this? Not at all. While some may think it to be a small “coincidence.” In reality it is another indicator of where we are and how far we have fallen from the truth. And when it comes to “The Truth”, there are Four Dangers fighting against it that Christians and the Church must understand and not be naive.

1. The Danger of Denial… you are living in the age of denial, as if denying the truth about something changes reality. For example…basic sexual biology is now denied; factual history is now denied; the Bible as authoritative is denied; etc.   None of that should surprise us, the Bible says…“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3–4, ESV)

2. The Danger of Delusions… and old saying goes, “There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.” We are witnessing an increasing delusional drift in the culture and tragically in many Churches. The scripture says that this will characterize the environment of the last days. “And with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,” (2 Thessalonians 2:10–11, ESV)

3. The Danger of Definitions… redefining terminology to fit sinful behavior has been weaponized against the truth. Young and old generations are being indoctrinated with new definitions about everything from illegal immigrants, who we are told should now be referred to as “Undocumented Noncitizens”, to pedophiles, who we are told should be referred to as “minor-attracted persons.” The Bible says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20, ESV)

4. The Danger of Deceit…  Rod Dreher in his book Live Not By Lies warns that the creeping soft totalitarian agenda that masquerades as socialistic democracy ultimately requires the eradication of Christianity. What we once was called Communism is today deceitfully portrayed by cultural progressives as compassionate equality, diversity, and inclusion. The Bible says, “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:6–8, ESV)

Don’t be naïve, the battle for truth is spiritual warfare. Recognize the dangers, put on the armor of God (Eph. 6) and stand strong in the Lord. And remember, God is always trying to take you someplace new. I love being your Pastor!

For God’s Glory Alone…
